E.SUN Sports Injuries Prevention Project
Baseball players are supposed to undergo rigorous training all year round to stay in shape and sharpen their skills. But one price they have to pay often takes the form of sports injuries. Wang Chien-ming and Kuo Hong-chih, two star pitchers from Taiwan who have made it to Major League Baseball, are cases in point. Both have had to endure harsh and tedious rehabilitation over long periods of time before they could recover from their injuries and return to the mound. It is not hard to imagine that many other outstanding players have little understanding of sports injuries and are often denied proper care after they are actually injured. What’s worse, many players tend to suffer such misfortune at high school but fail to secure the needed treatment; they are thus irrevocably denied the chance to prove themselves and win more glories for Taiwan in the field.
E. SUN takes on a long-term commitment to its sports injury prevention and rehabilitation program aimed at high school baseball players because it is fully aware of its importance and urgency to them. Every high school baseball player in Taiwan deserves to stay in his best shape in order to bring out his potential to the fullest in every game and win glory for himself, his team and the country.
E. SUN Bank, the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital join forces to organize the E. SUN High School Baseball Camp on Sports Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation. By helping them to take proper precautions against sports injuries early on and giving them well-rounded treatment and care if an injury is actually inflicted, the camp seeks to ensure that players and their teams uphold their combat readiness and capacity to fight for Taiwan’s glory at all times. Held in the course of summer vacation, the camp generally offers the following: prevention training, personalized evaluation, health database management, post-injury care, etc.
Statistics from the camp point to the following positions as the most vulnerable to sports injuries among high school baseball players: shoulder joints, elbow joints, wrist joints, spine joints, knee joints and ankle joints. Doctors say the problem with most players is ligament or tendon inflammation, which is especially the case with elbow joints. To redress the problem, players are advised to undertake an optimal amount of stretching exercises and training aimed specifically at intensifying muscular strength. Of course, they should also take a rest whenever warranted. If a case is considered severe enough, an X-ray or MRI scan is often needed before any follow-up treatment can proceed.
